Rancho Santa Margarita, Ca. (May 1, 2024) - The Orange County Sheriff’s Department announced plans to conduct Motorcycle Safety Enforcement in Rancho Santa Margarita on Monday, May 3, targeting violations that increase the risk of crashes.

According to an unidentified source, there are nearly 900,000 registered motorcycles in the state, leading to many road users traveling without the same protections as drivers. The source also highlighted that motorcycle riders are 28 times more likely to die in a crash than vehicle occupants.

In light of this, the authorities have issued safety tips for both drivers and motorcyclists. Drivers are advised to always check twice for motorcycles in mirrors and blind spots, use signals when changing lanes, maintain a safe distance, and allow enough space at intersections before turning. On the other hand, motorcyclists are reminded to wear appropriate protective gear, add reflective tape to clothing for better visibility, keep lights on at all times, signal early when changing lanes, and avoid high-speed lane splitting in traffic.
